Bank's cartoon characters are perhaps a bit too cartoonish

Australia's Bankwest and WPP AUNZ's Union offer up a trio imaginatively animated characters. Too bad they're such stereotypes.

Ad Nut loves the animation style in this campaign for Bankwest by WPP AUNZ's Union, which won the business last year. The ads are bright and fun and are sure to achieve the much-vaunted 'cut through', visually speaking.

They also show a pleasant diversity of skin tones, which is cool. But it's too bad they don't cut through clichéd gender stereotypes. Ad Nut doesn't expect every campaign to push gender-role boundaries. But at the same time, it's depressing to see so many campaigns stick to them so slavishly. It would be nice, once in a while, to see a woman who's way into a sporting activity. Or a dude who likes to shop while on vacation.

Or a woman who really likes to buy new electronic gadgets—and has to beg forgiveness from her disapproving man.

In addition to the TVCs seen here, the campaign includes digital display, animated and static OOH and social advertising.

Ad Nut wonders if the nifty payment ring (shown in the first video above) comes in sizes appropriate for small woodland creatures.

Ad Nut is a surprisingly literate woodland creature that for unknown reasons has an unhealthy obsession with advertising.
