Nike salutes 'crazy' women

The brand's latest ad will get you pumped up in advance of International Women's Day.

The above Nike TVC, which debuted during the Academy Awards, is probably a better film than some of the Best Picture nominees. It certainly gets Ad Nut fired up about female power, linguistic double standards, and unjust patriarchal power structures that need to be smashed—and all just in time for next week's International Women's Day.

It's got Serena WIlliams as narrator, and she gets a lot of screen time to note her many Grand Slam titles and how she remains competitive in her workplace now that she's a mom. But we've heard all that before, so the great one actually gets overshadowed by the many other athletes, few of whom are household names and all of whom kick ass.

Just watch it.

The ad, by Wieden+Kennedy Portland, is a follow-on to this work from September, which featured American-football player Colin Kaepernick as the narrator (and was part of the campaign that many people, including one of Ad Nut's pals at Campaign Asia-Pacific had opinions about). According to an article in Campaign UK, the Williams spot has proven more engaging than its predecessor.

Ad Nut is a surprisingly literate woodland creature that for unknown reasons has an unhealthy obsession with advertising. Ad Nut gathers ads from all over Asia and the world for your viewing pleasure, because Ad Nut loves you.
