Portfolio Night is the largest advertising portfolio review in the world. This is the eight year that creative directors in 39 cities across the world review the protfolios of upcoming young creatives simultaneously. This year Ogilvy was the official city host in 23 of the participating cities.
In a style similar to 'speed-dating', young creatives are randomly paired with the top creative directors from a variety of agencies in each city and given the opportunity to discuss their work. In addition to offering advice and direction on how to improve their portfolios, creative directors are also scouting for fresh talent to join their agency ahead of the competition.
In an interview with Media after Portfolio Night took place in Hong Kong, renowned creative pair and joint ECDs at Ogilvy & Mather in Hong Kong Simon Handford and Sandy Chan sat down to chat about Portfolio Night and what makes a candidate stand out. Both Handford and Chan were very impressed with quality of candidates this year and have plans to continue discussions with a few of the young creative they met on the night.
They also go on to talk about their move from M&C Saatchi to Ogilvy earlier this year and the direction in which they plan to take the agency.
In response to a question about the major changes in the creative industry over the past few years, the pair also explained the impact digital or "the advent of the internet" has had on conventional media and how it plays apart in lifitng the creative standard.
