Carat Malaysia appoints general manager

KUALA LUMPUR - Carat Media Malaysia has announced the appointment of Fan Chen Yip as the agency’s new general manager, a promotion from group account director.

Making the announcement, Margaret Lim, executive chairman of Aegis, said, “Carat has undergone significant growth over the past few years and is the third largest media specialist in the country.”

“Fan was moved up to strengthen our management team with credit going to him for being a consistent team player and his many achievements within Carat. His work and his client relationships have been exemplary.“

He joined Carat as group account director in 2006, after stints as planning director, head of buying and business director at Zenith and Universal McCann. Fan has close to 20 years experience in media, starting out as a trainee media planner back when media was still a department within agencies. He has worked on some of the biggest international and local brands across all different industries.

Raymond Tan, BMW Malaysia head of marketing and long time Carat client and partner, congratulated Fan on his achievement, “We are obviously delighted to hear of his promotion to this very important role in Carat. We are sure that the consistently good work that Fan and his team have been doing for BMW Malaysia over the years, has been a major contributing factor to his promotion. And of course, we expect much more from Fan in his new capacity as the general manager of Carat “.

Added Roy Tan, Carat’s managing director, “Fan’s highlights in Carat include, winning in almost all the annual Media Specialists’ Association’s Media Awards since joining Carat.  Also, to his credit are a string of new business wins and outstanding organic growth. His team was recently evaluated as one of the best performing amongst Nokia teams in Asia-Pacific. Fan was also voted, for two years running, as Best Innovator and Best Integrator respectively in Aegis Media's annual company-wide contest to honour outstanding performers “.

In his new role as GM, Fan will support Tan in managing the overall business as well as the day-to-day management of the agency. There will be special emphasis on new businesses and enhancing collaboration with Carat’s group of companies. Fan will continue to manage key accounts.
