China accounts for a third of global ad-funded video market

Top of the Charts provides a quick, mostly visual summary of a new piece of relevant research.

Report: WARC Data: Global Ad Trends, Over-the-top (OTT) report

Methodology: Forecasts based on data from Digital TV Research in 138 countries calculated to a fixed dollar rate.

Key takeaways:

  • China is expected to overtake the US to become the world's largest AVOD (ad-funded video-on-demand) market for the first time this year, drawing US$8 billion of advertiser spend—a third of the global total. AVOD in the US is expected to attract just under this, at US$7.9 billion.
  • Globally, AVOD advertising expenditure is seen to be growing ahead of other paid media like online display and search, with the medium's value nearly doubling to US$46.6 billion by 2023. The out-of-home market is growing the slowest, comparatively.
