China Mobile is number one in Holaba Brand War on Chinese telcos

Holaba.com.cn is a China-based online market data platform where consumers review and score up to 40,000 products. Holaba periodically launches a Brand War Campaign for different product sectors.

Between April and July 2010, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom were in the hot seat.

China Mobile received an average netizen shopping index of 8.5, China Telecom 7.6 and China Unicom 7. China Mobile receives 50.7 per cent under the Holaba-score (a non-public scoring system by the platform, only available by subscription), meaning the brand is doing well, while China Telecom has 15.7 per cent.

The Holaba-score is calculated by detracting the total negative scores (a scale of 0-6) from the total positive scores (9-10). For China Unicom, it has 24.7 per cent of the respondents gave a 9 or 10, but 30.4 per cent gave a score between 0 and 6. The result is a -5.9 per cent, meaning China Unicom is not rated highly.

China Mobile currently holds 520 million users in China. Beijing users rate China Mobile the highest, followed by Shanghai and Guangdong. The telco company is also rated the highest among people aged between 19 and 29.

The break down on China Telecom said 15.9 per cent of past users would recommend the telco. By demographics, men in South China (23.4 per cent) would recommend China Telecom to others while men in North and Northeast China are the least likely to recommend the brand.

China Unicom is most recommended by people in Northeast China, but it only holds a small percentage. Southern China has the most negative view of the company with 15.8 per cent.
