McCann picks up healthcare briefs

SEOUL - The Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare has appointed McCann Healthcare Worldwide to develop a campaign to draw public attention to the threat from tuberculosis.

McCann picks up healthcare briefs
The TV initiative will reportedly compare the rate of domestic deaths from the disease with those in less developed countries such as Cameroon, Congo, Peru and Yemen. It will include a message from health and welfare minister Jea-Hee Jun to remind the public that despite its severity, tuberculosis is curable under the appropriate treatment.

According to Amar Urhekar, McCann Healthcare’s executive vice-president for Japan and Asia-Pacific, the campaign was the first tuberculosis prevention drive to be screened on TV in Korea. Urhekar noted that tuberculosis had “not quite been a top of mind concern for the masses in recent times”.

Also in Korea, the Ministry for Health and Center for Disease Control has handed the agency a brief to develop a campaign to combat discrimination against Aids patients.

In India, meanwhile, health equipment manufacturer Omron has partnered with McCann Healthcare to market its home blood pressure monitors. Urhekar explained that the resulting work would aim to increase awareness of the risks from hypertension, and the value of regular home blood pressure monitoring.
