Pepsi-Cola Philippines launches powdered juice business with Mirinda

MANILA - Beverage maker Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines is venturing into the powdered juice business, the first foray for such products for PepsiCo in any market, with its flagship brand Mirinda.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Pepsi said it has launched Mirinda Powder Fun Mix, which comes in 35-gram sachets and 280-gram pouches.

This move is likely part of Pepsi's growth plan for its non-carbonated business. In recent years, PepsiCo chairman and chief executive Indra Nooyi has sought to change Pepsi’s focus away from carbonated soft drinks.

Cementing this strategy, last August the brand appointed Debra Crew to the newly created post of president, PepsiCo Americas Beverages, overseeing Gatorade, Tropicana and other noncarbonated drinks.

Partho Chakrabarti, president at Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, said the decision was made because the powdered juice drink segment is enjoying healthy single-digit growth annually and is a sector with only a few major players.

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines is the exclusive bottler of PepsiCo beverages in the Philippines, with a relationship spanning 66 years. It manufactures beverages under brands such as Pepsi-Cola, 7Up, Mountain Dew, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Lipton Iced Tea, Tropicana/Twister, Propel and Sting.
