Samsung Asia sees restructuring in marketing team, "small number" of layoffs

ASIA-PACIFIC - Samsung Southeast Asia & Oceania has seen a restructuring in its marketing team, under its new regional president and CEO KK Park, for reasons that have been phrased as “new boss, new team”.

Samsung Asia sees restructuring in marketing team,

It is understood that Park has made several changes to recent appointments in Samsung's regional marketing team. These changes include Christel Quek, former global social marketing manager at Havas Media Group, who joined in July as regional social business lead, and Ranji David who joined in May as regional head of digital marketing.

A source said Quek has since moved to Hong Kong as part of the restructuring exercise, while David has been reassigned to a new role as head of media.

KK Park was appointed to his current post in July, replacing Gregory Lee, who had held the role for more than three years. Lee has moved on to head Samsung's mobile electronics division in the US.

It is believed that Damien Cummings, regional marketing director, digital and social media, is still with Samsung Asia, but his role is subject to change.

In an official statement, Samsung would only acknowledge that the team was being restructured and described the changes as a "reallocation". When questioned if this restructure involved layoffs, Samsung's regional PR representative, Jolin Tan, did not respond.

Update: Samsung's director of corporate affairs for SEA and Oceania, Richard Joyce got in touch with Campaign Asia-Pacific to clarify that there will be "a very small number of layoffs" but that he could not name or confirm the roles of individuals.
