Bell, based in Washington DC, left a few weeks ago for a position at Travelers Insurance.

Crampton (pictured) will remain in Hong Kong, but spoke to Campaign Asia-Pacific this morning before flying to New York for the Christmas holiday. “It is very rare to have a global role based in Asia, and I chose to remain in Hong Kong, as this is the most exciting city,” he said.

The new role will provide leadership on social for all disciplines for North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, he added.

Since joining Ogilvy in 2009, Crampton has spearheaded the rapid growth of Ogilvy’s Asia-Pacific social-media offering from a few team members to more than 200 staff across 23 cities in 19 Asian territories, the agency said in a statement, adding that client billings in Asia are expected to accelerate by more than 40 per cent in 2013.

“Thomas has been an inspirational leader in Asia Pacific over the past five years, launching Social@Ogilvy across the whole region, and creating signature properties such as the Social Media Matters event” Miles Young, Worldwide chairman and CEO of Ogilvy & Mather, said in the statement. “He deeply understands the rapidly changing world of digital and social media and will bring both the agency and our clients forward on effective social strategies.”

Social selling, social shopping, social brand development and social influence will continue to be major growth drivers, Young added,

In other Social@Ogilvy news, Rudi Leung has been appointed as GM in Hong Kong.
