Unilever appoints AKQA as lead digital agency on Rexona

SHANGHAI - Unilever has appointed AKQA to handle its Rexona digital account in Greater China. The appointment follows a competitive three-way pitch last week, including the incumbent OgilvyOne and Razorfish; the latter pulled out half way through the pitch.

AKQA will provide a full digital service over the next year; creating a series of integrated communication campaigns to help Unilever grow its Rexona brand as well as revamping their website in China.

Jenny Yu, Rexona brand manager, said: "We are very excited to be working with AKQA as our lead digital agency. Together we will increase awareness of the product benefits and encourage trial of Rexona amongst our core audience."

“We are delighted to have been appointed by Unilever. Rexona is a high profile brand which presents a platform for innovation and storytelling within this new category,” said Johan Vakidis, ECD of AKQA. "Deodorant products only entered the China market a couple years ago, there is still a need to educate consumers and digital is a good medium."

AKQA has four Unilever accounts including Lipton and Comfort.

OgilvyOne Shanghai previously held the account since 2009 for only six months.

In January, Havas Worldwide’s Euro RSCG was named as Unilever’s first global digital roster agency.
