SHANGHAI - Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State has appointed Weber Shandwick Shanghai as is public relations partner at the World Expo 2010.

The award, which followed a competitive pitch, adds to Weber Shandwick’s Expo-related accounts. In November, New Zealand awarded the agency with its event business, and in September, Weber Shandwick launched General Motors’ Expo campaign.

The agency will be responsible for managing the Ministry’s press centre and overseeing media outreach under the chosen theme ‘Innovation for a Better Life’. It will also organise cultural activities and launch online initiatives to prompt social media engagement.

Weber Shandwick began work with the Ministry last month with the launch of Israel Week in Shanghai for which the agency has been appointed to manage media relations.

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will run from 1 May to 31 October. Two hundred nations and international organisations are expected to participate in the event. It is estimated to attract 70 million visitors from China and abroad.
