Wieden+Kennedy names new Shanghai ECD as Yang Yeo departs

Ian Toombs has joined Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai as executive creative director, replacing Yang Yeo, who returned to his home country of Singapore in December.

Toombs began his career in New York City working for design shops including Pentagram, Interbrand and Wolff Olins. He joined Anomaly as art director in 2006, later becoming ECD and head of design of its New York office. During his career at Anomaly he helped grow the creative department from five to over 50 creatives, ultimately doubling the company in size.

He left Anomaly in 2014 on a two-year sabbatical before relocating to Shanghai to join W+K, now working alongside managing director Bryan Tilson.

Clients he worked with in the US included Converse, Diesel, Budweiser, Captain Morgan, Google, Renaissance Hotels, Jawbone and P&G.

“I’m adventurous by nature, so the opportunity to lead the office of such a great creative agency in one of Asia’s most dynamic cities is a dream job for me," Toombs said. "I’m looking forward to fully immersing myself in China’s vibrant and unique landscape of creativity and culture."

Yeo's next move is unknown at this time.
