(Apologies to our friends in China, who can't see any of these due to restrictions on YouTube. We normally avoid embedding YouTube videos for that reason, but we threw this together on the spur of the moment.)
1) Cool drinks and images of summer go together like...well...sunshine and iced tea. So it seems appropriate to kick this roundup off with something from the brand that invented the Nestea Plunge. The bubbly spot above is from the Philippines.
2) Sweat? Check. Exhaust fumes? Check. Sun beating down? Check. Waterfall of Sprite (we presume) falling from the top of a building for an ad in Thailand? That's a new one.
3) Summer is the time for selling air-conditioning, and LG is working hard to move its wares with this funny spot from Indonesia.
4) Back to the refreshing drinks. This spot for Pocari Sweat (the Japanese sport drink that tastes good despite the name that puts some people off) uses pop band AKb48 to promote the Pocari Run in Singapore on 16 June.
5) We already covered this TVC by Publicis Hong Kong for Tempo tissues, which features a hapless guy in a crab-claw suit and quite accurately evokes summertime in Hong Kong.
6) This spot for Nivea Men in China isn't strictly a summer-themed ad, but it does feature summertime activities like motorbike racing and cooking big hunks of meat over fire.
7) Tao Ti Telford employs DaDa Chan (陳靜) as brand ambassador for its watermelon juice. Melons. DaDa Chan. Not hard to figure out the concept behind this one. A source inside PHD Hong Kong, the media agency for this campaign, admits the star was chosen partly because she is seen as a ‘goddess’ among online geeks. Not exactly progressive, but probably effective among the target demo.
8) Korean Air advertises family holidays with postcard-perfect idyllic tropical islands, sandy white beaches and palm trees. We've seen this all before, but it still works. How many days of leave do we have remaining?
9) Finally, we'll conclude with this one from Jim Beam, which suits the mood even though it's now almost winter in Australia.
