The appointment follows a four-way pitch. The agency will take responsibility for all communications duties, including the launch of a new brand campaign.

The campaign, due to roll out in early February, includes a TV, print, digital and experiential marketing for the Australian market.

Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club is the first fully professional rugby league team based in the Australian Football League-dominated state of Victoria. The club is one of the league’s top teams, having made numerous grand final appearances in major competitions.

“The last year has been a challenging one for Melbourne Storm. The appointment of Grey Melbourne as our creative agency partner is a major step forward to reposition the brand in what is a highly competitive sports landscape,” said Claire Murphy, chief commercial officer at Melbourne Storm.

Hitting the Australian headlines in April last year, Melbourne Storm was stripped of all its 2010 competition points following a series of confirmed salary cap breaches. The club also received a hefty fine and lost the right to any future points earned in 2010.
