Haymarket Media to take over publishing Singapore version of Stuff

SINGAPORE - Haymarket Media will begin publishing the Singapore edition of consumer-technology magazine Stuff in January, taking over from current licensee Absolute Publishing.

The move marks the first direct investment by Haymarket's Consumer Media division. (Haymarket Media Asia is the publisher of Campaign Asia-Pacific.)

The Singapore version of Stuff has a circulation of 30,000. In addition to Singapore, where it has been published for 10 years, Stuff is published in Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia and India.

The company launched an online site, stuff.tv, in July in Singapore and Malaysia. The geo-targeted site will later be launched in other markets in the region.

Edward Marr, head of licensing development (Asia) at Haymarket Media Group, said the company saw an opportunity to invest in the Stuff brand by first launching the website, then taking over the print product in order to develop both products together. The content of the local website will be a mixture from editorial teams in Singapore and the UK as well as local content by partners.
 
In Malaysia, Haymarket is working with its licensee for Stuff Malaysia, Catcha Media, for the launch of the local stuff.tv website. The company will work with licensees in other markets as well. Haymarket launched Stuff in Myanmar via a Facebook page in April, followed by the magazine a month later.

Andy Jackson, brand director for consumer media at Haymarket Media Asia, said the magazine shows readers how gadgets can change their lives, covering mobile applications, design, hardware, software and appliances.
