Former Omnicom Group CEO Birkin launches The Red Peak Group, wins Intel business

GLOBAL - Former vice-chairman and CEO of Omnicom Group Asia-Pacific, Michael Birkin (pictured), has officially announced the launch of his marketing services agency The Red Peak Group, naming Intel as its inaugural client.

According to the agency, The Red Peak Group advises brands on strategy and design. To lead the operation, former CEO of experiential marketing network Radiate Group, Jay Lenstrom, has been appointed as CEO of the marketing unit and CEO of RPMC, the experiential and sports marketing company also part of The Red Peak Group.

According to RPMC, the company works on large-scale sports and entertainment events including The Olympic Games, The Fifa World Cup and the Grammy Awards.

Meanwhile, Birkin will reportedly lead the company’s Intel work from New York. It will be handled through Red Peak Branding.

"Intel's open source approach to agency partners means that we will work with only the best talent,” said Johan Jervoe, vice-president of creative services and digital marketing at Intel. “We are looking forward to the fruits of our work together with Red Peak."

The company has further appointed Stewart Devlin as The Red Peak Group’s chief creative officer. He was most recently creative director at WPP’s The Partners and has worked as creative director at Taxi and Desgrippes Gobe.

The news comes seven months after Birkin announced his resignation from Omnicom after four years in Asia, leaving the holding company to restructure its regional operations under the leadership of Tim Love as CEO of Asia-Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa (APIMA).

In August, Huntsworth Plc., which owns Grayling, Citigate, Red and Huntsworth Health, named Birkin to its board as a non-executive director.

Birkin moved to New York to launch his venture. The Red Peak Group has offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London.

Among the Group’s plans for 2010 is an expansion into customer relationship management.
